Moore’s mills were mostly horse powered though Eastham Mill, just below the current hospital to the North, also had its own millpond and Eastham Dale relied on the running water too.
There were only a couple of other millowners in Liverpool at the time (a mill could only be constructed with permission from the King), but the Moores and the Molyneuxs were where the fight was, respectively at the North and South ends of the Moss Lake. Each had their own part of the peat cutting empire, each had their own stream running off the Moss Lake, and each had mills powered by them which in turn brought in revenue.
