My latest attempt to track down is the identity of the elusive Miss Gregson, who may prove the key to unpicking some of this if I can work out which Miss Gregson she is. The architects and designers of much of the Square and surrounds were the Fosters, both Snr and Junior, the tombstone for whom is in St James' cemetery for those interested. Stick with me...
Connected to this its looking increasingly probable that two of the first known residents, William Rushton and Robert Gladstone, first moved into houses on the West side of the Square for a couple of years as their more permanent houses on the South side were completed, which would support my proposition that at least part of the West side was completed earlier than thought. I need to follow this up to be sure but thought I'd post as I'm including my 'workings' as well as my conclusions in this blog. And this proposition is actually based on evidence rather than guesswork!
