The changes to lease status ( which came about as property owners were screwing the corporation over) finally came in 1824, so anyone with a foreknowledge of planned changes would have been very careful about what contracts they had signed up to. And the lease issue had been discussed for a couple of decades before the change, with pretty much everyone holding land in MossLake fields being connected to the Corporation so fully aware of the consequences.
This may sound confusing but it will take a chapter to explain the intricacies properly. Suffice to say leases are swines when you're working out what went on.
