A competition was run in the University's School of Architecture to design a replacement, though none of these were eventually used when 'Senate House' ( now the Sydeney Jones library) was built on the land.
I know a lot of people are horrified by the demolition of St Catherine's Church post war, but as you can see from this picture, there was significant damage to the interior. The facade could have been kept, and there were arguments to do that, but structural issues remained there too, along with dry rot in the adjoining houses.
