Being Human

Its been a long time since I posted I know and apologies. truth of the matter is, after a nasty bout of man-flu I've been busy doing day-job work, and also preparing for the new exhibition at the University, Being Human.

All about the different research into all the facets of what it means to be human, its been great fun, if hard work. The exhibition opens next week, with lots of talks and activities going on. Please do drop in if you're around.  Details of events and things are appearing on our website www.liv.ac.uk/being-human .

Back to Abercromby Square very soon, I promise!

Sometimes fate gives you a wonderful gift!  One of the big problems of researching nineteenth century Abercromby Square is that to date there are no known photographs at all I can find of the house interiors, which is why finding the above was so fantastic this week, particularly as I came across it by accident.  This actual piano is currently in Paris, but was bought in 1848 by Mr Henry Moore for his house at number 4 Abercromby Square.

Any search engine I come across I always try a few keywords to test it, and usually related to my research so it was total chance I came across this link. But a very happy coincidence :-)

Lack of activity

Apologies for the lack of postings this weekend, it doesn't mean nothing is going on, more that I have a bout of the ubiquitous fresher flu bug so am snuffling in abject self pity and haven't been researching for a few days.

The Charleston project is progressing well ( I need to take some photos of the Square) and on track, and some very useful hints on more MacIver links very kindly sent through to me. When I stop sneezing on my keyboard I shall investigate far more thoroughly I promise.

Feel free to use this hiatus to check out my older posts though. There's some really good stuff in there and it would be a shame for you to miss it :-).

I've posted the above photo before ( from St Andrews on Rodney Street ) but it seemed appropriate. Attended the talk on Charles MacIver, who I now understand should be pronounced 'maceever' held by The Reader.

It was really interesting to hear the history of the family from one of their descendants, and helped me place the correct Davids and Charles's in order for their respective residences in Abercromby Square. Also fascinating to hear of Charles' elder brother John being resident in Charleston, which raises some interesting thoughts over family connections during the Civil War, even though John himself was long dead by that period. Also some great pointers for biographical sources to trace more. I suspect I may now get slightly distracted from writing by investigating further!
